Cherkasky, Irynarkh [Черкаський, Іринарх; Čerkas'kyj, Irynarx], b 17 December 1869 in Tarashcha county, Kyiv gubernia, d ? Historian of law, member of the Commission for the Study of the History of Western-Ruthenian and Ukrainian Law at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN), chairman of the legal terminology commission at the Institute of the Ukrainian Scientific Language at the VUAN, and co-editor of Rosiis'ko-ukraïns'kyi slovnyk pravnychoï movy (Russian-Ukrainian Dictionary of Legal Language, 1926). He directed the work on Slovnyk ukraïns'koï iurydychnoï starovyny (Dictionary of Ukrainian Juridical History), which was prohibited in the early 1930s. He is the author of a number of articles and books on the history of Ukrainian law, among them Hromads'kyi (kopnyi) sud na Ukraïni-Rusi XVI–XVIII vv. (The Community [Kopnyi] Court in Ukraine-Rus’ in the 16th–18th Century, 1928), and articles on domanial courts and Hetman Kyrylo Rozumovsky’s legal reforms. Cherkasky was arrested in 1934 and again in 1941 and sent to a GULAG concentration camp. His ultimate fate is unknown.
