Hrudyna, Dmytro [Грудина, Дмитро], b 10 February 1893 in Nizhyn, d 25 October 1937 in Kyiv. Soviet theater critic of the 1920s and 1930s. He worked briefly as an actor and later headed the theater department of the Committee for the Arts at the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR. In his articles, which appeared in Krytyka (1928–32), Nove mystetstvo, and Sil's'kyi teatr, he attacked any strivings for new artistic forms, and particularly the Berezil theater directed by Les Kurbas. With the introduction of the Russification policy, he was arrested. He died in prison.
