Kysilevsky, Kost [Кисілевський, Кость; Kysilevs’kyj, Kost’], b 23 February 1890 in Roshniv, Tovmach county, Galicia, d 20 September 1974 in Irvington, New Jersey. Linguist and pedagogue; full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society from 1932 and of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences from 1948. A graduate of the universities of Leipzig and Vienna (PH D 1912), Kysilevsky taught in several gymnasiums and teachers' seminaries in Galicia in the interwar period. He emigrated to Germany in 1944, where he was appointed professor of the Ukrainian Free University in 1945. In 1949 he moved to the United States. His publications include a number of textbooks of Ukrainian, didactic works, and a Ukrainian-Polish-Ukrainian dictionary (compiled with Yevhen Hrytsak, 1930–1). His study of the language of the Hankenstein Codex appeared in Zapysky Naukovoho tovarystva im. Shevchenka, vol 161, and his description of the dialects of the Dnister River and Prut River basins appeared in vol 162. He also proposed a revision of the classification of Ukrainian dialects.
