Mazade, Fernand, b 8 October 1861 near Anduze, France, d 30 November 1939 in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, France. French poet, critic, and journalist. Sympathetic to the cause of Ukraine’s independence, he rendered assistance to the Ukrainian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference (1919–22). He was a cofounder of the French Circle of Ukrainian Studies. His translations of two poems by Taras Shevchenko were published in the weekly France et Ukraine in 1920. He also translated some of Maksym Rylsky’s poetry. Mykola Tereshchenko translated some of Mazade’s poetry into Ukrainian.
