Ukrainian Quarterly, The. An English-language quarterly journal published since 1944 in New York by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UKKA). It contains articles on Ukrainian history, culture, and political and economic developments and, prior to Ukraine’s independence, was especially concerned with the national question in the USSR and with publicizing Ukrainian opposition to the Soviet regime, national-liberation struggles in Asia, and anticommunist movements throughout the world. After the Second World War the journal took up the cause of the displaced persons and lobbied to have them admitted to the United States of America. Many prominent Ukrainian-American émigré and non-Ukrainian scholars have contributed to The Ukrainian Quarterly. Its chief editors have included Mykola Chubaty (1944–57), Walter Dushnyck (1957–84), M. Bohatiuk, and Leo Rudnytzky. Others who have served on the editorial board include Antin Drahan, Matvii Stakhiv, Petro Stercho, Roman Smal-Stotsky, Stephen Shumeyko, and Yevhen Zyblikevych. Cumulative indexes to the journal for the years 1944–64 and 1965–70 have been published.
