Volodymyr Mstyslavych

Volodymyr Mstyslavych [Mstyslavyč], b 1132, d 30 May 1171 in Kyiv. Kyivan Rus’ prince; son of Mstyslav I Volodymyrovych. He supported his brother Iziaslav Mstyslavych as prince of Kyiv in 1146–54, and was granted in return the Osterskyi Horodets (now Oster) lands in 1147 and Dorohobuzh in 1153. After his brother Sviatopolk died in 1154, Volodymyr Mstyslavych ruled in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, but he was chased out by his nephew, Mstyslav Iziaslavych. He ruled in Slutsk, Riazan, and, again, Dorohobuzh before being proposed by Rostyslavych dynasty members as grand prince of Kyiv in 1171. He held that position for only four months before his death.
