Association of Proletarian Musicians of Ukraine

Association of Proletarian Musicians of Ukraine (Асоціяція пролетарських музикантів України or АПМУ; Asotsiiatsiia proletarskykh muzykantiv Ukrainy or APMU). APMU was created in Kharkiv in 1928 with a mandate to combat ‘bourgeois music and malorosiishchyna (Little Russianness)’ and to create ‘proletarian music.’ The association was dissolved on 23 April 1932 by a resolution of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolshevik).
