Debaltseve

Debaltseve [Дебальцеве; Debal'ceve]. Map: DBIII-4. City (2014 pop 25,525) in Donetsk oblast. Established in the early 19th century as a village of Iliinka, it assumed its current name in 1878 when a railway station was established there. Debaltseve is an important railroad and highway junction in the central Donets Basin. It has railway-equipment and mining-equipment plants, an asphalt-concrete plant, railway-servicing plants, a food-processing plant, and a technical school of railway transport.
