Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr. See Google Map. Built in 1160 in Volodymyr (in Volhynia) by Prince Mstyslav Iziaslavych of the Volodymyr principality. The church was built according to an established pattern which is exemplified in the church of Saint Cyril's Monastery in Kyiv. This fact indicates that its builders were Kyiv masters. The Dormition Cathedral is a one-story, cruciform building with a dome supported by six columns. Its walls are harmoniously divided by arches and decorated with frescoes. The church was rebuilt in the 18th century. In spite of the poor restoration work done by the architects Adrian Prakhov and G. Kotov in 1896–1900, the church has a majestic appearance.
