Ivanytsia, Hryhorii

Ivanytsia, Hryhorii [Іваниця, Григорій; Ivanycja, Hryhorij], 11 February 1892 in Shostka, Chernihiv gubernia, d 24 August 1938 in a GULAG labor camp, Magadan oblast, RSFSR. Pedagogue. In the 1920s Ivanytsia was a professor at the Kyiv Institute of People's Education, the secretary of the Pedagogical Commission of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and coeditor of the journal Radians’ka osvita (Kharkiv). He is the author of articles on the methodology of teaching Ukrainian language and literature, readers, and textbooks, including one on Ukrainian for Russian speakers (1925, 2nd edn 1927). A defendant in the Stalinist show trial of ‘members’ of the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine (SVU) in 1930, he was arrested and sent to a Soviet GULAG labor camp where he perished.
