Kapkan, Yurii

Kapkan, Yurii [Капкан, Юрій], 1875–? Senior officer of the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. A lieutenant colonel in the Russian army and author of a field manual on machine guns, he joined the Ukrainian army in the spring of 1917. Promoted to colonel, he commanded the Khmelnytsky Regiment and the First Serdiuk Division (see Serdiuk guard divisions). At the end of 1917 he was in charge of the Ukrainian forces at the Bolshevik front. In 1919 he served as an infantry inspector of the UNR Army.
