Tkachenko, Ivan

Tkachenko, Ivan [Ткаченко, Іван; Tkačenko], b 10 June 1892 in Semenivka, Izium county, Kharkiv gubernia, d ? Literary scholar. In the 1920s he taught the history of Ukrainian literature at the Kharkiv Institute of People's Education and was an associate of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Research Institute. He compiled a bibliography of writers of Slobidska Ukraine and researched the life of Mykhailo Drahomanov and the works of Panas Myrny. He published articles on Myrny in Chervonyi shliakh and Literaturnyi arkhiv, on Ivan Franko in Chervonyi shliakh, and on Panteleimon Kulish’s poetry in Zapysky Istorychno-filolohichnoho viddilu VUAN. Tkachenko also edited, with an introduction, the 1928 and 1929 editions of Myrny’s works (vols 1–2, 5) and wrote biographical booklets about Franko (1926) and Kulish. He was arrested during the Stalinist terror, and most likely died or was killed in a GULAG concentration camp.
