Tykhorsky, Khoma

Tykhorsky, Khoma [Тихорський, Хома; Tyxors'kyj, Xoma], b 23 October 1733 in Domontiv, Pereiaslav regiment, d 14 February 1814 in Saint Petersburg. Physician; honorary member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences from 1798. After being educated at the Kyivan Mohyla Academy (1750–6), the Medical School of the Saint Petersburg Admiralty Hospital (1756–9), and Leiden University (MD, 1765) he lectured on pharmacology in hospital schools in Saint Petersburg. He was senior physician at the Saint Petersburg Admiralty Hospital (1771–5) and the Saint Petersburg Army Hospital (1776–1806). He was a member of the Saint Petersburg Medical College (1779–99) and the medical council of the Moscow Police (1804–6). He translated a number of medical works into Russian and wrote a handbook on forensic medicine.
