Ukrainian Canadian, The

Ukrainian Canadian, The. An English-language magazine published in Toronto by the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians semimonthly from September 1947 to 1969 and monthly until the end of 1991. It contained articles on Ukrainian culture, translations of Ukrainian literature, and reports on developments in the Ukrainian pro-Soviet community in Canada. While it devoted less attention to political affairs than most other Ukrainian pro-Soviet publications, it consistently supported the policies of the Communist Party of Canada, particularly concerning the peace movement. The editors of The Ukrainian Canadian included John Weir, Mitch Sago, Mary Skrypnyk, W. Szczesny, Petro Prokopchak, and G. Moskal. In 1992 it was succeeded by the bilingual Ukraïns'ko-kanads'kyi visnyk/Ukrainian Canadian Herald.
