Vynnytsky, Yurii

Vynnytsky, Yurii [Винницький, Юрій; Vynnyc’kyj, Jurij] (secular name: Гавриїл; Havryil), b ?, d 22 November 1713. Uniate metropolitan. He studied at the Jesuit college in Peremyshl before entering the Lavriv Saint Onuphrius's Monastery in 1700. Later that year he was consecrated bishop of Peremyshl (see Peremyshl eparchy). Vynnytsky reformed his eparchy, which had joined the Uniate church in 1692. He was administrator of Mukachevo eparchy from 1707 and of Lviv eparchy from 1708. In 1708 he was nominated as metropolitan of Kyiv, but his installation was delayed until 1710 because his candidacy was opposed by the pope.
