Zabashta, Vasyl [Забашта, Василь; Zabašta, Vasyl’], b 11 June 1918 in Babenkove, Izium county, Kharkiv gubernia. Painter. A graduate of the Kyiv State Art Institute (1951), he joined its faculty in 1955. He has painted portraits and genre paintings in the socialist-realist manner, such as P. Tchaikovsky at the Home of M. Lysenko (1954), In the Years of the Underground (1955), Recollections of Ukraine (1964), Kulak Vengeance (1971), Victory Salute (1975), and The Banduryst H. Tkachenko (1978). He is also know for numerous landscapes.
