Zaiachkivsky, Yosyp

Zaiachkivsky, Yosyp [Заячківський, Йосип; Zajačkivs'kyj, Josyp], b 14 April 1810 in Lviv, d 14 March 1894 in Lopianka, Stryi circle, Galicia. Greek Catholic priest and civic activist in Galicia; father of Tyt Zaiachkivsky. In 1848 he was a member of the Stryi local council of the Supreme Ruthenian Council. During the 1860s he (together with Stepan Kachala) was a leading figure in the nascent Ukrainian national movement in Galicia and one of the founders of the Prosvita society. He was elected honorary member of Prosvita.
