Halushchynsky, Mykhailo [Галущинський, Михайло; Haluščyns’kyj, Myxajlo], b 26 September 1878 in Zvyniach, Chortkiv county, Galicia, d 25 September 1931 in Lviv. Political and cultural leader, pedagogue; brother of Tyt Teodosii Halushchynsky. After completing his studies in Lviv and Vienna he taught secondary school in Zolochiv until he became director of the Ridna Shkola society gymnasium in Rohatyn in 1910. During the First World War, he was an officer of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen (USS) and then a USS liaison officer at the Austrian High Command. After the war he taught at the Lviv (Underground) Ukrainian University. From 1923 to 1931 he was president of the Prosvita society in Lviv and editor of its educational magazine Zhyttia i znannia. A candidate of the Ukrainian National Democratic Alliance, in 1928 he was elected to the Polish Senate and served as its vice-president. He wrote a book of memoirs—Z Ukraïns’kymy Sichovymy Stril’tsiamy (Among the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, 1934)—and a number of pedagogical works.
