Naranovych, Petro [Наранович, Петро; Naranovyč], b 1805 in Chapliivka, Krolevets county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 20 May 1858 in Kharkiv. Physician; brother of Pavlo Naranovych. A graduate of the Saint Petersburg Medico-Surgical Academy (1826), he worked at the Saint Petersburg Military Hospital, where he attained the rank of surgeon and obstetrician (1834). He was a professor of anatomy (from 1837) and of surgery (from 1843) at Kharkiv University. His work dealt with locomotion in humans, and new surgical procedures. He invented a number of surgical instruments.
