Pavlovsky, Teoktyst [Павловський, Теоктист; Pavlovs'kyj], b 1706 in Liutenka, Hadiach regiment, d 28 November 1744. Painter. A graduate of the Kyivan Mohyla Academy, he worked from 1730 under Ivan Maksymovych at the Kyivan Cave Monastery Icon Painting and Art Studio. Eventually he took monastic vows and was appointed director of the studio. He took part in painting the icons in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyivan Cave Monastery and the Kyivan Cave Monastery’s Saint Nicholas’s Church (eg, the portrait of Varlaam Vonatovych). He also painted landscapes and portraits and designed the poetic thesis of Sylvestr Kuliabka (1744, engraved in Berlin). His paintings and icon sketches have been preserved in the studio’s albums.
