Tutkovsky, Mykola [Тутковський, Микола; Tutkovs'kyj], b 17 February 1857 in Lypovets, Kyiv gubernia, d 28 February 1931 in Kyiv. Composer, pianist, and pedagogue; brother of Pavlo Tutkovsky. A graduate of the Russian Music Society’s school in Kyiv (1880) and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory (1881), he studied piano with Volodymyr Pukhalsky and music theory with A. Kazbyriuk. In 1893 he opened his own music school in Kyiv, where he worked until 1930. From 1920 he also taught at the Kyiv Conservatory. His works include the opera Buinyi viter (The Wild Wind), symphonic music, chamber music, pieces for piano, choral music, art songs, and arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs. He also wrote a textbook on harmony in 1905.
