Volhynian Ukrainian Alliance (Волинське українське об’єднанніа; Volynske ukrainske obiednannia). A pro-government political party in Polish-ruled western Volhynia in the 1930s. It was set up by Ukrainian émigrés from central and eastern Ukraine with the help of the Polish voivode Henryk Józewski. Its candidates, who ran on the list of the Polish Nonparty Bloc of Co-operation with the Government, won some seats in the Polish Sejm and Senate, where they formed a faction separate from the Ukrainian Parliamentary Representation. For its loyalty to Poland the alliance looked to gain some concessions from the government, particularly in church and cultural affairs, but it had little success. The alliance had little influence among the local Ukrainian population. The presidents of the party were Petro Pevny and (from 1935) Serhii Tymoshenko. The chief activists included M. Bury, M. Volkov, Oleksander Kovalevsky, and Mstyslav Skrypnyk. The party published Ukraïns’ka nyva and (from 1936) Volyns'ke slovo.
