Vytychiv congress of princes. A conference of Kyivan Rus’ princes that took place on 10 August 1100 in Vytychiv, 40 km south of Kyiv on the right bank of the Dnipro River. It was called by Volodymyr Monomakh to settle differences among the princes and unite them in battle against the Cumans. The Primary Chronicle states that among the assembled were Sviatopolk II Iziaslavych of Kyiv, Volodymyr Monomakh, Oleh (Mykhailo) Sviatoslavych of Chernihiv, and Davyd Ihorovych of Volhynia (who blinded Vasylko Rostyslavych of Terebovlia). For his violation of a treaty signed at the Liubech congress of princes (1097), which had caused much internal strife, Davyd was forced to give up the Volodymyr principality. The chronicle describes Volodymyr Monomakh's call for unity and Davyd's antagonism. A number of successful campaigns against the Cumans, fought by a united force, followed the Vytychiv congress.
