Association of Revolutionary Composers of Ukraine

Association of Revolutionary Composers of Ukraine (Асоціяція революційних композиторів України or АРКУ; Asotsiiatsiia revoliutsiinykh kompozytoriv Ukrainy or ARKU). Formed in 1927 and dissolved in 1932, this association united young composers who strived to develop Ukrainian symphonic music, opera, and instrumental chamber music. They particularly favoured a new musical tradition established by Mykhailo Verykivsky and Pylyp Kozytsky. Its president was Valentyn Kostenko. Among its members were Yulii Meitus, Mykola Koliada, and Volodymyr Nakhabin.
