Khoinatsky, Andrii [Хойнацький, Андрій; Xojnac'kyj, Andrij], b 28 July 1836 in Novohrad-Volynskyi county, Volhynia gubernia, d 1888 in Nizhyn, Chernihiv gubernia. Orthodox church leader, pedagogue, and church historian. A graduate of the Kyiv Theological Academy, he taught at a theological seminary in Kremianets and then became a lecturer in theology at Nizhyn Historical-Philological Institute. Khoinatsky specialized in the history of the church in Volhynia, especially the Pochaiv Monastery and the Church Union of Berestia, and folk beliefs and folk customs and rites. In addition to numerous journal articles, he wrote Zapadnorusskaia Tserkovnaia Uniia v eia Bogosluzhenii i obriadakh (The Western Ruthenian Church Union in Its Liturgies and Rites, 1871) and Ocherki iz istorii Pravoslavnoi Tserkvi i drevnego blagochestiia na Volyni (Outlines on the History of the Orthodox Church and Early Religiosity in Volhynia, 1878); a revised version of his Pochaevskaia Uspenskaia Lavra (The Pochaiv Dormition Monastery) appeared posthumously in 1897.
