Levytsky, Ivan

Levytsky, Ivan [Левицький, Іван; Levyc'kyj], b 16 November 1875 in Mala Luka, Husiatyn county, Galicia, d 8 April 1938 in Lviv. Composer, choir conductor, and pedagogue. From 1910 he lectured at the Ukrainian Teachers' Seminary and the Lysenko Higher Institute of Music in Lviv. He wrote music for violin (Nocturne, Romance), choir, and vocal solo. He set many of Taras Shevchenko’s verses to music and also wrote music textbooks, most notably Narys istoriï muzyky (An Outline of the History of Music, 1921).
