Likowski, Edward, b 26 September 1836 in Września, Poland, d 20 February 1915 in Poznań. Polish church figure and church historian. He studied theology in Münster, was ordained in 1861, and was a professor of canon law and church history at the Poznań Theological Seminary from 1865. A member of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 1886, he wrote scholarly monographs in Polish on the history of the union of the Ruthenian and Roman churches (1875), the history of the Uniate church in Lithuania and Ruthenia (ie, Ukraine and Belarus) in the 18th and 19th centuries (1880; 2nd edn 1906), and the 1596 Church Union of Berestia (1896; 2nd edn 1907; Ukrainian trans 1916). In Poznań he served as the vicar-general and vicar of the archdiocesan chapter. He was elevated to the rank of archbishop in 1914.
