Liubarsky, Semen
Liubarsky, Semen [Любарський, Семен; Ljubars'kyj], b 20 May 1878 in Tyshivtsi, Tomaszów Lubelski county, Lublin gubernia, d July 1944 in Skryhichyn, Hrubeshiv county, Kholm region. School teacher and civic and church activist. He graduated from a teachers' seminary in Kholm in 1900 and taught at schools in Hrubeshiv county. He was a member of the Central Rada (1917–18) and, in the interwar period, a deputy to the Polish Sejm (1922–8), where he belonged to the Ukrainian caucus (see Ukrainian Parliamentary Representation). A pro-Ukrainian political activist, Liubarsky was arrested by the Polish authorities in 1939 and imprisoned in the infamous concentration camp in Bereza Kartuzka. Released after the outset of the Second World War, he was a founder and worked as director of the Mykhailo Hrushevsky museum in Kholm. He published articles on the history and ethnography of the Kholm region and a book of memoirs.
