Martynets, Mykhailo [Мартинець, Михайло; Martynec', Myxajlo], b 1859 in Solotvyn in the Boiko region, Galicia, d 8 June 1919 near Nadvirna, Galicia. Forestry engineer. A graduate of Vienna University, he worked in Sambir as head of a ministry department for the regulation of mountain streams in Galicia (1900–14) and wrote several works on the subject. During the First World War he directed the head office for reconstruction in Lviv (1916–18), and in December 1918 he accepted the portfolio of agrarian affairs in the State Secretariat of the Western Ukrainian National Republic. During his tenure as secretary he helped draft the land reform law. As the Ukrainian Galician Army was retreating, he and his co-workers were captured by Polish troops and executed without trial.
