Officer schools of the Ukrainian Galician Army

Officer schools of the Ukrainian Galician Army. In January 1919 each corps of the Ukrainian Galician Army (the Zolochiv Brigade of the Ukrainian Galician Army, the Sambir Brigade of the Ukrainian Galician Army, and the Kolomyia Brigade of the Ukrainian Galician Army) set up its own infantry officer candidate school. An artillery officer candidate school and a signal officer candidate school were also organized in Stanyslaviv. Each school offered a three-month course patterned on Austrian army courses. Most of the students were veteran noncommissioned officers aged 18 to 24 years. The infantry schools had 78 to 95 students each, and the artillery and signal schools had 42 to 50 students. Besides the first class of officer candidates, two more classes (one infantry and one artillery) were graduated in the fall of 1919 in central Ukraine, for a total of approximately 440 officer candidates. The commanders of the schools were Maj F. Rimal, Maj Y. Feshchuk, First Lieut D. Kulchytsky, Capt I. Sitnytsky, Capt Lev Sheparovych, Capt O. Dragan, and S. Leshchii.
