Hohol, Ostap

Hohol, Ostap [Hohol’], ?–1679. (Portrait: Ostap Hohol.) Cossack military leader during the Cossack-Polish War of 1648–54. A member of the Volhynian nobility, he was intermittently the colonel of Mohyliv-Podilskyi regiment from 1658 until 1676 (when the regiment was dissolved). He was briefly, in 1649 and 1674, colonel of Vinnytsia regiment. From 1676 until his death he was acting hetman of Right-Bank Ukraine.
