Hoshovsky, Bohdan

Hoshovsky, Bohdan [Гошовський, Богдан; Hošovs'kyj; pseudonyms: Didus, B. Danylovych], b 21 August 1907 in Zolochiv, Galicia, d 21 July 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Civic figure, journalist, and writer, editor, and publisher of children's literature. He edited the journals Mali druzi (1937–8, 1940–4, 1948) and Doroha (1937–8, 1940, 1942–4) and such book series as Moia knyzhechka (My Book, 1940–4) and Doroha (The Road, 1940–2). During the Second World War he worked for the publisher Ukrainske Vydavnytstvo (Cracow). After the war he immigrated to Toronto, where he founded two publishing houses for children's literature: Nashym Ditiam and Yevshan-Zillia. He cofounded and headed the Association of Ukrainian Writers for Young People, and coedited the monthly Veselka. Hoshovsky is the author of children’s stories and articles on various topics in the Ukrainian press.
