Lysenko, Ostap

Lysenko, Ostap [Лисенко, Остап], b 13 July 1885 in Kyiv, d 1 October 1968 in Kyiv. Musicologist and pedagogue; son of Mykola Lysenko. After graduating from the Lysenko Music and Drama Institute in Kyiv in 1930, he taught at music schools in Kyiv until 1941, when he reorganized the Kyiv Conservatory and became its director. He later lectured at the Lviv Conservatory (1945–51) and the Kyiv Conservatory (1951–68). He edited the collections Neopublikovani vokal'ni tvory M. Lysenka (The Unpublished Vocal Works of M. Lysenko, 1967) and M.V. Lysenko u spohadakh suchasnykiv (M.V. Lysenko in the Memoirs of His Contemporaries, 1968) and was instrumental in steering through publication a complete rendition of his father’s works during the 1950s. He is also the author of the memoirs M.V. Lysenko: Spohady syna (M.V. Lysenko: A Son’s Memoirs, 1959, 1966).
