Pasternak, Severyn

Pasternak, Severyn [Пастернак, Северин], b 29 September 1899 in Vatsovychi, Drohobych county, Galicia, d 14 March 1994 in Lviv. Geologist; full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh) from 1934; brother of Yaroslav Pasternak. He was a research associate of the Shevchenko Scientific Society’s Museum of Natural History in Lviv (1927–39). Under the Soviet regime he served as director (1954–6 and 1958–60) of the paleontology department of the Natural Science Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Lviv. His major research interests included the minerals of Western Ukraine and the chalk deposits of the Podilia and Volhynia regions.
