Ritter von Rittersberg, Ludwig

Ritter von Rittersberg, Ludwig (Ritter z Rittersbergu, Ludvík), b 19 November 1809 in Prague, d 6 June 1858 in Vršovice, Bohemia. Czech writer, journalist, and composer. He studied music in Lviv. Among his writings are descriptions of Galicia and tales about the Hutsuls. In his Gedanken über slavischen Gesang (1843) and elsewhere he wrote that Podilia was the cradle of the Slavic song and that the kolomyika was the prototype.
