RUB

RUB [РУБ]. An artists’ group in Lviv, formed by students and graduates of the Novakivsky Art School. RUB held events annually starting in 1926 providing public exposure for its members. It promoted a synthesis of Eastern art with current artistic traditions of Europe, and favored works which expressed local flavor and national characteristics. In Karby (Notches), the first art almanac published by RUB in 1933, V. Havryliuk, V. Hrytsenko, Volodymyr Lasovsky, Stepan Lutsyk, Mykhailo Moroz, Olha Pleshkan, Hryhorii Smolsky, Antin Maliutsa, and R. Chornii were listed as members.
