Taranko, Mykhailo

Taranko, Mykhailo [Таранько, Михайло; Taran'ko, Myxajlo], b 1887 in Galicia, d 1956 in Canada. Publisher and teacher. In Lviv he founded the Svit Dytyny publishing house, which issued, under his editorship, the children’s magazine Svit dytyny (1929–39) and teen magazine Moloda Ukraïna (1923–6), and the Ditocha biblioteka (Children’s Library) and Populiarna biblioteka (Popular Library) book series, in which over 230 titles had appeared by 1939. In the 1930s Taranko served as executive secretary of the Prosvita society in Lviv.
