Venhrynovych, Tyrs

Venhrynovych, Tyrs or Wenhrynowicz [Венгринович, Тирс; Venhrynovyč], b 21 September 1924 in Drohobych, Galicia, d 23 May 2002 in Cracow. Graphic artist and painter of Ukrainian origin in postwar Poland. After graduating from the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts (1952) he directed the drawing department of the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow and devoted his free time to art. As a member of the Union of Polish Artists he had over 50 solo exhibitions in Poland and also exhibited in Edmonton, New York (1986), Brockport, New York State (1987), and Lviv (1989). A master of line, wood, metal, and plaster engraving, he illustrated books and created many prints and over 500 bookplates. A series of 120 prints depicts Lemko and Boiko churches. As a painter he did mostly landscapes, particularly of the Lemko region and Cracow, but also genre paintings and icons.
