Wójcicki, Kazimierz Władysław

Wójcicki, Kazimierz Władysław, b 3 March 1807 in Warsaw, d 2 August 1879 in Warsaw. Polish writer, publisher, archeologist, and ethnographer. After taking part in the Polish Insurrection of 1830–1 he moved to the Pokutia region, where he studied the folklore and folk customs and rites of the local people, developed connections with Polish Ukrainophiles in Lviv, and followed the growth of the Ukrainian national movement. He published the materials he had collected in Pieśni ludu Biało-Chrobatów, Mazurów i Rusi znad Bugu (Songs of the White Croatian, Mazovian, and Ruthenian People from along the Buh River, 1836) and Klechdy starożytne, podania i powieści ludu polskiego i Rusi (Old Folk Legends, Stories, and Tales of the Polish People and Ruthenians, 1837) and wrote an essay on the historical and agricultural proverbs of the people of Poland and Rus’ (1840). After returning to Warsaw in 1843, he worked as an archivist, a newspaper editor, and a publisher.
