Yaroshenko, Volodymyr H.

Yaroshenko, Volodymyr H. [Ярошенко, Володимир; Jarošenko], b 4 July 1888 in Myrhorod, Poltava gubernia, d 2 July 1957 in Kyiv. Linguist. A graduate of Saint Petersburg University (1912), from 1926 to 1934 he was a research associate at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN) and compiled dictionaries. He wrote the first detailed study of the Ukrainian language in 14th- and 15th-century Moldavian charters (1909; pub 1931) and articles on the phonetic transcription of Ukrainian (1919) and Ukrainian medical terminology (with Illia Kyrychenko, 1934), and he coedited the VUAN Russian-Ukrainian dictionary (vol 2, fasc 2–3, 1932–3).
