Zholtovsky, Pavlo

Zholtovsky, Pavlo [Жолтовський, Павло; Žoltovs'kyj], b 8 December 1904 in Mysliatyn, Iziaslav county, Volhynia gubernia, d 30 August 1986 in Moscow. Art scholar. He graduated from the Kyiv State Art Institute in 1932 and received his candidate’s degree in 1955. An associate of the Lviv branch of the Institute of Fine Arts, Folklore, and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, he wrote many articles on Ukrainian art and books on the artistic monuments of the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people in 16th- to 18th-century Ukraine (1958), on artistic metalwork (1972), on artistic metal casting in 14th- to 18th-century Ukraine (1973), on 17th- and 18th-century Ukrainian painting (1978), on the arts in the 16th to 18th centuries (1983), on the paintings of the Kyivan Cave Monastery Icon Painting and Art Studio (1982), and on mural painting in 16th- to 18th-century Ukraine (1988). He registered, measured, and photographed hundreds of architectural monuments and acquired many artistic monuments for Ukraine’s museums.
