Central State Scientific-Technical Archive of Ukraine (Центральний державний науково-технічний архів України or ЦДНТА; Tsentralnyi derzhavnyi naukovo-tekhnichnyi arkhiv Ukrainy, or TsDNTA). The central state repository for specialized documentation regarding scientific and technological development in Ukraine as well as major construction projects. It covers all major sectors of the national economy: construction, energy, and metallurgy; coal mining, natural gas industry, petroleum industry, and chemical industry; automobile, tractor, agricultural, heavy, and medium engineering, etc. It is located in Kharkiv and operates under the aegis of the State Archival Service of Ukraine. TsDNTA was established in 1969 as the Central State Archive of Scientific-Technical Documentation. It was the republican counterpart to an all-Union scientific-technical archive which had been created in Kuibyshev (now Samara) in 1967. It acquired its present name in 1992.

The leading place in the archive is occupied by documents on capital construction of fuel and energy complex facilities and heavy industry enterprises. Of particular interest are the few documents related to the project for the construction of the first Soviet hydroelectric power plant, the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station. Nuclear power is represented by technological maps of the installation of equipment in the engine room of power unit No. 1 of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant in Mykolaiv oblast (1973–80). The archive also houses ‘complexes’ of documents which require special handling, notably the plans for major construction projects (eg, the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station and Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Station) and special architectural undertakings (eg, the Ukraina cinema theater in Kharkiv). These are deposited by state scientific research institutes and technical institutions, metallurgical enterprises, construction planners, and the like. A third of the archival complexes contain design and technological documentation: designs of steam and diesel locomotives of the Luhansk Diesel Locomotive Plant (1931–57); cars and buses of the Kremenchuk and Lviv automobile plants; sea and river water transport; tractors of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant; mining equipment; agricultural machinery, road machinery, machine tools, etc. Of all 28 personal fonds, the fond of architect Oleksii Beketov occupies a special place. Its documents reflect a history of architecture and construction in Ukraine and in Kharkiv from 1891 to 1941 and includes the variety of documents: architectural drawings, as well as pencil, ink, and watercolor sketches. TsDNTA presently has 1,377 of these complexes, 265 archival fonds, with some 678,515 storage units covering the period from 1851 to 2016.
