Kolomyiets, Anatolii [Коломиєць, Анатолій; Kolomyjec', Anatolij], b 4 October 1918 in Savyntsi, Myrhorod county, Poltava gubernia, d 19 April 1997 in Kyiv. Composer. Studying composition under Lev Revutsky, he graduated from the Tashkent Conservatory (1943) and the Kyiv Conservatory (Ph D 1951). From then on he taught at the Kyiv Conservatory, obtaining the rank of full professor by 1971. His compositions include Variations on a Ukrainian Theme (1956) for orchestra, a ballet Ulianka (1959), a cantata In Memory of I. Kotliarevsky (in collaboration with Vitalii Kyreiko, text by Maksym Rylsky, 1969), a piano sonata (1941) and various other piano pieces, The Ukrainian Sonata (1968) for bandura and piano, several bandura pieces, compositions for mixed choir, and music to various verses by Ukrainian poets.
