Kyporenko-Domansky, Yurii [Кипоренко-Доманський, Юрій; Kyporenko-Domans'kyj, Jurij], b 24 March 1888 in Kharkiv, d 6 August 1955 in Kyiv. Opera singer (dramatic tenor). He made his debut with Oleksii Sukhodolsky’s troupe in 1907, then worked with the companies of Panas Saksahansky and Dmytro Haidamaka. After singing with Russian companies in Moscow (1913–17) and Saratov (1918–21), he returned to Ukraine, where he performed with the Odesa and Kharkiv operas (see Odesa Opera and Ballet Theater and Kharkiv Theater of Opera and Ballet) before becoming a permanent soloist at the Kyiv Theater of Opera and Ballet in 1939. His main roles included José in Georges Bizet’s Carmen; the title roles in Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, and Tannhäuser, and Giuseppe Verdi’s Othello; and Andrii in Taras Bulba and Taras in Christmas Night, both by Mykola Lysenko.
