Onyshchuk, Antin [Онищук, Антін; Onyščuk], b 7 June 1883 in Kolomyia, Stanyslaviv circle, Galicia, d 29 October 1937 in Kyiv. Ethnographer. Before the First World War he was a research associate of the Ethnographic Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv, where he specialized in the culture of the Hutsuls and in folk pottery. After the war he moved to Kyiv, where he worked at the All-Ukrainian Historical Museum and at the Ethnographic Commission of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (#VUAN). He also served as director of the VUAN’s Cabinet of Anthropology and Ethnology and its Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology. He was arrested during the Stalinist terror in 1937 and executed by the NKVD.
