Yeleva, Kostiantyn [Єлева, Костянтин; Jeleva, Kostjantyn], b 17 May 1897 in Kyiv, d 19 November 1950 in Kyiv. Graphic artist and theatrical scenery designer. After graduating from the Kyiv State Art Institute (1922) he taught there. He was a member of the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine (1925–32) and contributed articles on art to Hart. He designed the scenery for Les Kurbas’s staging of Haidamaky (1920) and propaganda posters; created several colored-pencil print series, such as ‘Samarkand’ (1941–3), ‘Zagorsk’ (1944), and ‘Kyiv—Kaniv’ (1945–50); and did paintings, such as The Strike Is Broken, Portrait of a Typist (1927), Portrait of M. Helman (1943), and landscapes. A catalog of an exhibition of his paintings came out in 1955.
