Drehovichians

Drehovichians (Drehovychi). An East Slavic tribe that occupied the territory between the Prypiat River and the upper Western Dvina River. The Old Slavic word driahva or dreha means marsh and indicates the nature of the land that was inhabited by the Drehovichians. The land of the Drehovichians constituted a separate principality, the capital of which was the town of Turiv. In the 10th century it was annexed by Kyivan Rus’. The main occupation of the Drehovichians was agriculture, while manufacture and crafts were secondary.
