Hadiach regiment

Hadiach regiment [Гадяцький полк; Hadiatskyi polk]. An administrative territory and military formation of the Hetman state (see Regimental system) with a capital in Hadiach. The regiment was formed in 1648 at the outbreak of Bohdan Khmelnytsky's uprising (see Cossack-Polish War) but in 1649 was joined to Poltava regiment. It was reconstituted in 1658 and existed until 1660 when it was joined with Myrhorod regiment. It was reconstituted again in 1672. In the mid-18th century the regiment had 18 companies and its territory included 11 towns and 971 villages. In 1782 Hadiach regiment was dissolved, and its territory was incorporated into Chernihiv vicegerency.
