Horbachevsky, Antin

Horbachevsky, Antin [Горбачевський, Антін; Horbačevs’kyj], b 27 January 1856 in Zarubyntsi, Zbarazh county, d 26 April 1944 in Sianik, Galicia. (Photo: Antin Horbachevsky.) Lawyer and civic and political figure in Galicia. He was an active member of the populist movement and later cofounder of the Ukrainian National Democratic Alliance, as well as editor of the newspaper Dilo (1883–4). From 1912 to 1918 he was a member of the Austrian State Tribunal in Vienna; in 1913 he was elected to the Galician Diet. During the Western Ukrainian National Republic he was a member of the Ukrainian National Rada in Lviv and, in 1919, of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Warsaw. From 1927 to 1939 he was a senator in the Polish Senate and chairman of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Representation.
