Lynnychenko, Ivan

Lynnychenko, Ivan [Линниченко, Іван; Lynnyčenko], b 24 October 1857 in Kyiv, d 9 June 1926 in Simferopol. Historian. He graduated from Kyiv University (1879), where he studied under Volodymyr Antonovych, and became a professor at Odesa University (1884–8, 1896–1926) and Moscow University (1888–96). His works concerned the history of Kyivan Rus’ and the sociopolitical history of Galicia in the 14th and 15th centuries. He treated Ukrainian history from a Russian imperial viewpoint, but his studies on Galicia contain valuable source materials.
